AT&T Wireless to make a comeback?

I was just reading up on EV-DO and researching and comparing and learning a few things:

  • EV-DO is really fast. I want it but that means I'd have to switch to Verizon Wireless.
  • Cingular is the largest wireless phone carrier in the U.S. and claims to have the largest calling area and fewest dropped calls.
  • Cingular uses 2.5G data transmission technology (GPRS and/or EDGE). Verizone Wireless uses 3G (EV-DO).
  • It has been decided earlier this year that the name "Cingular" would be dropped after AT&T Inc. aquires Bell South. At that point they will rename the wireless division back to "AT&T Wireless". Amazing.

So what does this all mean? And what is the best wireless to get? At this point I really hate to ditch Cingular but that EV-DO looks really tempting to try out.
